The fishing in Prince William Sound changes as the season progresses, as a result we adapt our strategies to ensure we are targeting the species you desire. In late May through June the halibut move into shallow sandy water to gorge on crabs. This allows us to catch fish in relatively shallow water using lighter gear. Starting in late June through the remainder of the season the halibut run a bit deeper. July 1st brings the opener of one the most coveted fish in Alaskan waters, the lingcod. This voracious fish is a strong fighter, and the skippers fish of choice on the table. In mid-July chrome-bright silver salmon begin to stage out on the grounds. It is not uncommon for you to catch halibut, lingcod, and silver salmon fishing in the same spot. Time permitting we will top off our catch with a variety of rockfishes. While these are the targeted species we often catch other fish such as pacific cod, flounder, greenling, wolf fish, spiny dogfish, and skates. |
