Halibut
- Halibut fishing was not quite as good as anticipated, despite the good tides. We still managed to land a fish that tipped the scales at 60lbs. There were also numerous chickens caught.
- Not many big fish caught this weekend
- The current halibut derby leader is 274.5 – still plenty of time left for the derby fishermen
Salmon
- A few more kings were caught by Valdez anglers trolling at Anderson Bay
- Pinks are jumping throughout the port and the narrows and are just beginning to be caught by sport fishermen
- Billy’s Hole should be showing up with Reds about this time, fish the in coming tide
Other salt water fishing
- Our last stop of the trip yielded lots of pelagic and non pelagic rockfish along with numerous ling cod
- There are quite a few Pacific Cod being caught around the sound. Pacific Cod are great to eat and also work well as halibut bait. Put a piece of cod on your hook and then add a hearing.
- Remember Ling Cod season opens July 1st.
Shellfish
- Shrimping is still good in Valdez and the surrounding bays.
- We hauled in 119 large “spots” off of one pull.
- Shrimping is reported to be excellent at Unakwik
